Sometimes growing off dead wood but more commonly seen growing off leaf litter. Can be easily overlooked being mistaken for twigs or stems.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Description<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Very peculiar fungi, resembling worms suspended out the ground, Uncommon in Britain and Ireland, but can be seen from June to November.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Identifying Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<h2><b>Fruit body<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colour- Mainly ochra with light to mid brown at the base and dark still where it attaches with root like structures. Sometimes more orange tones towards the tip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shape- An unbranching tubular shape, becoming slightly wider towards the tip, often flattened on one side sometimes with a twist. Soft longitudinal grooves. Growing upwards either straight or more often with a wave between\u00a0 5-30cm tall and 5-10mm wide. Typically fruits in multiples.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Pores\/gills<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The spores are released from the smooth surface of the tips on the fruit body. No visible pore or gills<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Smell<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No distinctive<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Spores<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">White<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Known hazards<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">None known <\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Potential lookalikes<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other types of non branching club fungi such as Golden Spindles (Clavulinopsis fusiformis) but this grows in denser clumps and is yellow in colour.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Uses<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>There are no recorded uses for this fungi.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><b>Extra Notes from the foragers<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The generic name Typhula comes from Latin and means slightly smokey.
